F.V. Albatross

Today's the day ……………………….. for an obstacle course

You might find it hard to believe that in the vast expanse of water filling Kirkcudbright Bay at high tide - in order not to run aground, the Albatross really has to manoeuvre herself between the red and the green buoys?

I mean, there's not a lot of wiggle room, especially when she's going at such a lick on her way to the fishing grounds.  But, if you came back to this spot at low tide, it would be a different story.  Most of the bay would be a vast mudflat with just a narrow channel where the River Dee meanders its way into the Solway Firth.

Big boats like this one have to judge it just right ……………………..
