Tea from a weed
Last summer I blipped about starting the process of making tea from the leaves of rosebay willowherb and now it has come to maturity. The little balls of dried leaves (in the glass bowl) were rolled and left to ferment for a few days before being dried and kept in a tin for six months. The resulting brew is remarkably pleasant, like a light, flavoursome Indian tea. It has a number of medicinal properties and is said to be mildly sedative.
'Fireweed' infested the bombsites of wartime London but I bet none of the much needed cuppas enjoyed during the clear-up operations were ever made from it.
