A Scone, a Fairisle jumper and Poppy
Poppy might have missed the delights of having coffee in Söderberg (there’s always time in the future to rectify this), but there was no way she was going to miss a cranberry and walnut scone with all the trimmings at Coltman’s Café in Peebles.
We got an early bus there in time to find a table and a scone before they disappeared. I think she was impressed by their newly made warmth and their expansive height, and the cream and jam were welcome extras.
Thus fortified with calories we had a short walk along the Tweed into a challengingly chilly wind before ‘doing the shops’ especially the shoe shop and the charity ones. Suffice it to say my Orkney pal went back to Edinburgh with a heavier bag than when she arrived!
Once we arrived back in the Capital there were more charity shops to trawl through before a restorative cup of tea with Daughter #2 and walk back to the Dower House over the Meadows in the dark.
It’s been a long day but such an enjoyable one for both of us having had a hard time in different ways over the last month.
We are now settled in front of the TV each with a glass of Baileys and a share of a chocolate orange.
The Magnificent shawl that arrived yesterday from blipper Wildwood in California was hand knitted by her especially for me. That makes it extra, extra special and will be treasured for ever
