La Fira de Nadal, Begur

Today is a public holiday in Spain (el día de la Constitución, the date of the referendum held in 1978), and tonight was the official switching on of the Christmas lights in Begur. It was also the beginning of the four-day Fira de Nadal (Christmas Fair) ... a rerun of the fira de la castanya, on a smaller scale. Cheers greeted the lighting of the illuminated "tree" in the square, and a group of teenage girls with Santa Claus hats on sang Christmas carols, later segueing into "Hit the road, Jack" for some unknown reason. Then glasses of cava with a slice of cake for 1 euro each were dished out. Apart from that, there wasn't a lot going on, and after drinking our cava and wandering around taking a few photos, we retired to El Farolillo for a few tapas and some wine before going home.

It's been a beautiful day; earlier, S walked up to the castle on top of the mountain behind Torroella de Montgri, from which there are fine views over the whole of the Baix Emporda. And I stayed at home and worked :)
