All the while they're safely behind their electric fence all is harmonious on the common. My regular reader may recall that, a couple of years ago, Basil and I were charged by the herd and I had to throw first him and then myself over a fence to escape. It remains the most terrifying experience of my life but I'm over it now and I'm very fond of cows, however, reading that an elderly local woman was trampled by cow on another local common yesterday has reminded me that they are best given a wide berth, particularly if you have a dog with you. I hope the woman is going to be okay.
