A little piece of paradise
We have spent the last 9 days in our caravan parked up at my brother's property a few km out of Tauranga. He has a few hectares planted in fruit trees all for his personal use (and family, friends and neighbours because his trees produce far more than one person can ever get through). It was originally part of a larger property but he has sold off most of it now just keeping the orchard. There is a lot of work involved in keeping the grass down during summer which he does with an old tractor pulling a mower. Unfortunately he has been very unwell for about 8 week with 5 weeks in hospital and heart surgery just before Christmas and with our wet early summer weather the grass growth took off. We did a quick mow early December and now over the last nine days have cleaned the grass up completely, mowing and weed eating. The place it looking good. It hasn't been an arduous task, we worked during the cooler hours of the day and spent the middle of the day resting, reading or swimming. It's been a lovely holiday spending time with my brother and sharing his beautiful piece of paradise - and eating his ripe fruit! His health is improving, soon he will be well enough to look after the grass himself. He has bought a ride on mower now which will make it much easier,
and in about 2 weeks he will get a clearance from the cardiologist to drive and operate the mower. What he is really missing is riding his iridescent purple motorbike! He had it painted that colour after his wife died because it was her favourite colour!
Tomorrow we go home as our garden won't be enjoying this hot weather without water.
