An Oak Between Two Olives
A wander up the Land at end of day, looking for beauty, found so much of it that was difficult, again, to choose just one photo. The building we hope to live in eventually lies between these olive trees and the holm oak, just to the left. The insects appear to be mating, large clouds of them under the trees.
Folk in England asked several times whether we were finding it cold there... Well, yes, it does get warm in the sun here, and we do have more sun, but it's often a lot colder at night than in England; tonight, for instance, it's going down almost to 0°, whereas in Birmingham, the low will be 6°C. But the real difference is that here in the Alentejo, no-one (that we've met) has central heating or double glazing, and places like churches have no heating at all. It looks warm and sunny, but you can get bitterly cold, and we have, more than once.
