New Year lunch in the Borders 2

Today we celebrated the new year with two of my school friends and their husbands at P&S's house in the Borders. My blip shows the dining table just before we sat down for lunch. The prawn cocktails added some colour to a rather dull winter's day.

We worked our way through a menu of smoked salmon amuse-bouches, prawn cocktails, steak pie, cheese, a rocky road type pudding, and chocolates. The drinks menu was also extensive, starting with fizz, then white wine, red wine, port, pudding wine, and Baileys. (NB I did not indulge in all of the above.)

Meanwhile we discussed (among other things) the NHS, Oman, Sri Lanka, Dubai, drinking, cycling, retirement, taxation, Brexit, siblings, green vegetable soup, pensions, illnesses, significant wedding anniversaries, the housing market of past and present, and ailing/dying parents.

After lunch we amused ourselves at the piano with a couple of renditions of Must be Santa. In the middle of this one of L's friends phoned her so she was treated to an encore over FaceTime.

If this all sounds rather familiar, check my journal entry for the equivalent date last year (7th January 2018).

Exercise today: walk to L&T's for our lift to P&S's house (15,730 steps).
