Snowy sheath-bill
Spent the day at sea, between the Falklands/Malvinas and South Georgia. A very calm and quiet crossing, 15 km/hr winds and a lovely sunny afternoon. Very unusual, apparently it's usually much rougher than this. Mostly pictures of sea birds, of course. Albatross and giant petrels, but also this elegant thing. Not a dove, but a Snowy sheath-bill.
It's habits belie it's delicate appearance though --- it eats penguin guano. There's a Glaswegian culinary opportunity there, deep fried guano. "Hey, Jimmy. Gie's a guano supper!".
