Princes Street Pedway
Post war planners in Edinburgh envisaged the demolition of all the old shops on Princes Street. In the early 1960s the raised walkway (pedway) was begun. The vision was to have an elevated pavement running the length of Princes Street with footbridges over all the connecting streets. Some “new” shops from that era still have sections of the pedway as seen in today’s blip. The pavement is far too narrow for today’s hordes of visitors and its original plan only had stepped access.
It was great to see Lady Findhorn this morning. Later we pedwayed around the dying embers of the sales and enjoyed a late lunch in Henderson’s followed by work calls from home.
