Murmuration
At last. The Starlings are doing their thing.
And with perfect timing as it was the first time we had taken our ten and seven year old grandsons in the hope of seeing the great spectacle.
So far this year they have been dropping into the reeds as soon as the many groups arrived from different direction. They have also been changing the place they choose to roost.
It is estimated that there may be up to 100,000 of them in the area.
Nobody is quite sure why they put on the mass swirling performances. But several authorities think it may confuse predators.
I like to think they do it just for pleasure.
The fact that they can turn backwards and forwards at great speed without any collisions is almost unbelieveable.
And the noise if they come over your head is thrilling.
