Winter skeletons.
I find the bare trees in winter very attractive, many of them have beautiful structures. The line here are along a ditch in the midst of a large area of arable farmland.
Christopher Saxton's 1579 map show this area as a huge lake, The local landowner Thomas Fleetwood of Bank Hall attempted to have it drained in 1692, with only partial success, further attempts were made in the 1780's. It was only in the mid 19th century with the aid of steam pumps that the land was drained.
The Wildlfowl and Wetlands Trust established a wetland centre here in the 1970's.
This photo was a desperate attempt to find a blip whilst dealing with the cold morning out on the bike. I believe it is supposed to be good for me.
