Black-browed albatross on their nest
We arrived in the Mavinas/Falklands this morning and landed on West Point island. Scenery very like moorland in the west highlands. Spent 2 (rather damp) hours watching a colony of albatross on their nests, mixed with roosting rock-hopper penguins. We got to within a few feet of the birds and they didn't seem concerned at all. Albatross are indeed huge birds.
In the afternoon we visited Saunders Island and say more kinds of penguins: gentoos and Magellans (thousands of them, just standing around on the beach), as well as more rock-hoppers. We also saw some king penguins, which are absolutely magnificent birds.
