An Ostrich egg

Nearly impossible to destroy. Here my mom copied the illustrations of a very old children’s book, called The Root Children, “Die Wurzelkinder“ in German. I presume it dates from the 1920ies and it tells the story of the little children each representing a flower over the course of a year. In fall they go underground to be pampered and brushed up and in spring they climb back up in all their glory.
This book has been translated into English and it is still available today in bookstores. I learned that the author (Sybille von Olfers) died in 1916.
I might delve into some more memories in the course of this year, as I realized, how often I have been moving since being a very small child. Once we start unpacking our stuff again, I will have access to things that may help me to put a number on this move. I know that I moved 16 times with my parents only and my father was not in the army, just a difficult man.
