Which is Your Favourite?
The UK's favourite Christmas sweets, Quality Street, were invented in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1936, by the MacKintosh family, who were toffee makers. Their aim was to produce a selection of chocolates that could be enjoyed by working families rather than just the wealthy, and by "using a tin, instead of a cardboard box, MacKintosh ensured the chocolate aroma burst out as soon as it was opened and the different textures, colours, shapes and sizes of the sweets made opening the tin and consuming its contents a noisy, vibrant experience that the whole family could enjoy."
The tins are now replaced by plastic tubs (maybe they in turn will be replaced by something more recyclable?) but the tradition of a tin of Quality Street at Christmas continues. The Amigos were quick to dive in - see extras (especially Trigger of course) but each settled on a suitable treat - Trigger picked a pointy one, Rowan picked the biggest one but with a soft heart of gold, and Kelso picked the oldest flavour, loved by everyone, the caramel.
Earlier the Amigos had a relaxing morning at home while Sarah and I went to the wildlife rescue - it's a bit smelly there for them! They are now helping to take down the Christmas decorations - they think the tree looks bare so they are trying to brighten it up - see extras. I had to keep an eye on Rowan, I wouldn't want to box him up in the attic until next December!
