Take me to the bridge

After a day's indulgence, yesterday, everybody was up for a walk, today (apart from Milly, who had to go to work). Joined by the Minx and miniMinx, we drove out to Barbon, left the cars just opposite the church and walked up the steep hill on the road that goes along Barbondale and out to Dent.

It's a tough start to the walk but at the top we were all flushed of face and grinning and we chatted all the way along the road in ever changing groups before cutting across the heather, and improvising routes over Aygill using the stones in the stream's bed. I'm not sure any of us took exactly the same path across but none of the stones were so wobbly that anyone ended up with wet feet.

And then we took the bridge over Barkin Beck. Here are all our kids, less Milly and plus Will. I think you can see from the photo how everyone was enjoying themselves.

The walk back, along the far side, through the woods and under the manor, is my favourite stretch to run (in fact, this is where I came yesterday).

We finished our afternoon at The Lunesdale Arms, which is where Milly works during the holidays. It's the third place that Andy Wilkinson has run since I've lived up here. He had the Sun Inn when I first moved to Kirkby Lonsdale and then Avanti, and now he runs the Lunesdale. He has the Midas touch when it comes to bars and restaurants, so if you're ever in the area, I'd recommend giving it a try.
