Derelict Sunday: Re-use

Our poor old wheelbarrow is now more than a little derelict - not only is the wheel at a funny angle, it has also seized up. So I thought it would make a satisfactory subject for Derelict Sunday. (Don't worry - we do have a new wheelbarrow as well.)

When we were out walking a couple of weeks ago we spotted an old wheelbarrow in a garden which was being used to grow bulbs in. We thought that was a good idea. And we'd bought some bulbs at the garden centre a while back and we hadn't yet had time to plant them. The instructions say that they should be planted between September & December so we thought we'd better get a move on today!

We thought it would be best to drill some holes in the bottom of the barrow to avoid it becoming waterlogged - see the first photo in the collage in the extra. Then I put some stones in the bottom to help stop the holes getting clogged (collage photo 2). After that we filled it with a mixture of soil & compost, with some chicken pellet manure mixed in, then planted the bulbs. (No point in showing them when they were covered in soil of course.)

I'm hoping that in several weeks' time I'll have a good source of Flower Friday material!

Meanwhile, many thanks indeed to Marlieske for looking after Derelict Sunday so well.
