Its the Way It Is

‘Do you think

Little Mermaid’ said her friend The Seahorse ‘that we have the perfect life here under the sea where everything is beautiful and serene and even the sun reaches down to us?’

‘Don’t you know Seahorse that there is no such thing as the perfect life!’ said Little Mermaid ‘because we are never content with the way things are. We will always want things to be the way we think they should be. Why only last week I heard you cussing because the starfish were so lazy and just sat around all day expecting to be loved for themselves and their symmetrical beauty’

‘Yes yes but hopefully they will move on down to East Ocean Boulevard and join the hippy Urchins there - don’t get me started on those urchins. And as for the Barnacles - they have just started a movement called Occupy The Rocks - encouraging all and sundry to seek out empty rocks and just randomly clamp onto them tsk tsk.’

‘Seahorse - the Starfish are living according to their nature. As are the Urchins and also the Barnacles. The Starfish are indeed beautiful, the Urchins and Barnacles also. Did they not invite you to their gig last Friday?’

‘Eh no’ said The Seahorse. I didn’t know they played music’.

‘Oh yes they do. They all come together, differently but inherently the same, to create a beautiful sound and give their friends the sea creatures fun and happiness. Do you want to join us next Friday. They need a good harmonica player’

The Seahorse was basically a good sort - just prone to occasional bouts of grumpiness. But he loved his friend The Little Mermaid because she was always honest with him and didn’t lose her patience with him.

And it turned out he was pretty handy on that ole’ mouth organ and Friday nights were never lonely again. He even started to think the starfish were indeed beautiful

Fun in my kitchen studio this morning. My lovely sea vase (which I let fall and is now chipped) along with bits of my jewellery, a back drop of green towel, loads of sellotape to try and conceal the necklace chains and the sun streaming in the window (weather is like May in Dublin atm), I spent an enjoyable hour or so.
