Friday: Shaggy

If you're not really into kitties, then this isn't really the blip for you.  However,  if you are........read on!

K. volunteers at a local cat sanctuary in Richmond - at least once a week but sometimes more often.  As I was off work, I went with her today to help out.  Her area of responsibility is a side shelter where they house cats that are a little too old to be rehomed, or that have conditions that would make it a bit difficult.

At the moment, she has 9 charges, but that number goes up and and down a little.  There isn't a single kitty there that isn't incredibly sweet.......some are bereaved cats, some have had owners who have gone into sheltered accommodation and couldn't take the cats.  Recently, they had four cats come in whose young owners, in their thirties, were killed in a car accident.......

This is Shaggy - he is actually pretty healthy but he is part of a bonded pair and his companion, Spicer, is a little too delicate to be rehomed so they both stay there together.

In extras you have (in order) Chanel, who has been there for a long time - desperately shy but loves an ear stroke more than anything, Sophia - very sweet and lovely tempered and, finally, Jimmy.  Jimmy was in the severe fires in the interior last year - his family was evacuated and left him behind. After he was rescued and his family was contacted, they decided they didn't want him back.........seriously, some people.........

On a much more boring domestic note, the fridge is fixed.

Susan Hill's ' Jacob's Room Is Full Of Books' is a journal about her year of reading.  It's my favourite type of book - a book about books.  I really enjoyed it - despite the fact that Susan Hill comes across as a little superior and condescending.  I don't think that we could be friends.......but I liked the bookishness of it and just sniggered at her somewhat patronizing attitude.
