Mackintosh
On 10th December this year, the First Minister unveiled a statue to the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The date was significant in that it was the 90th anniversary of his death. The sculptor was Andy Scott and the style of this bronze statue was a marked departure from his better-known creations such as Arria in Cumbernauld and The Kelpies in Falkirk.
Today was the first time I'd had the opportunity to go down to Anderston in Glasgow to visit it, and I was most impressed. It shows the architect seated at a Mackintosh-style chair and leaning forward as if explaining a new design concept he had in mind.
The sculpture is illuminated at night, so quite a few photos were taken. My favourite is this monochrome shot, but I've added a couple of extras, as I couldn't really make up my mind which to post!
