America Day 8

Being tourists today. We went to a town, Harper's Ferry that was "preserved" or re-built to commemorate John Brown, he of the body "mould'ring in the grave". He was an American Slavery abolitionist, eventually being hanged for his part in a raid to free some people that ended up killing others.

I love how Americans think that buildings from 1800s are Very Old and need to be preserved!

Incidentally there was a parking "sharp practice" going on here. We parked under the sign about parking charges, which were payable only by going and paying on an internet site. The trouble is, there is no internet signal available there. So while we walked to a shop to find internet signal, the police, having watched us park, came over and gave us a ticket.

Much arguing on the phone later saw the charge reduced to the equivalent of 3hours parking but not cancelled.

Interesting fungus on some logs in a parking area.
