When did my first grandchild become so grown up? Catriona gives the festive table a last look over as her father tackles the turkey at the beginning of another epic Christmas dinner. It’s a big effort to get up in the dark after 5 hours in bed and make sure we’re early enough for the ferry, but the hospitality and the food fair make up for it!

But now I’m beyond anything other than a speedy blip , a Christmas greeting to any who pass by, and sleep.
