Burnham Deepdale
Nipped out to catch the high tide and lovely morning light before heading over to Norwich.
I’ve been feeling a bit below par since finishing work so was regretting having committed myself to help out at the Norwich Open Christmas which has been established for the homeless and those who would otherwise be isolated or alone for 27 years. Once I was there though it was nonstop serving drinks and food (for about 500 people, an organisational piece de resistance) and then transporting folk wherever they needed to be...I was very glad of craggy’s satnav that he lent me on Saturday.

What a magnificent place, what a magnificent heritage... I just loved the sense of civic ownership of so many hundreds of years of history in what is apparently the most complete medieval friary complex in the country with one of the largest civic portrait collections looking down on us and gathering with other volunteers in the crypt looking down the long cloister, rammed with clothing. It all felt like a very curious combination of Mad Max, Alan Bennet and Heart of Darkness.
Home now to a glass of wine, potted shrimps and an overdose of cavolo nero and sprouts to ward off the lurgy that is waiting in the wings for its moment.
Happy Christmas dearest blippers!
