The Christmas post

Have you noticed a particular theme with your Christmas cards this year?

I have. Out of nearly a 100 received most contain images of cats, dogs, rabbits, deer, robins and horses and only seven with a religious theme.

Either that reflects our circle of family and friends or it’s just another sign of the increasingly secular society we live in.

This morning the annual newsletter from a dear cousin arrived.
He is a man who once harboured ambitions to become a minister of the church
but for various reasons this was not to be.

Christmas though is a time when he comes into his own.

His local church, of which he is an ardent supporter, takes part in a Church of England initiative called “Open Book” where they re-enact scenes from the bible for local schools.

He says: “We are of course, suitably dressed in Biblical costumes,

“During this year I have played God more than once, various kings and finally Joseph,”

He is also in great demand to play Santa Claus.
