Anti-forgery measures
When they brought out the new one pound coins a couple of years ago they announced that there were a number of extra security measures in the design to combat forgery. One of those measures is the use of micro writing around the perimeter of the coin inside the rim but outside where it says ELIZABETH II D G REG F D. I have often wondered what the writing said but it scarcely discernible to the naked eye as the font is only about a tenth of a millimetre high. As you can see, I have discovered that it says one pound repeatedly around the rim. To put the scale of this in perspective, the D and the G in the foreground are about 1.5mm tall.
