Demolition

The initial demolition processes have finally begun on H Block at school.  This has been slated for demolition for years, so it is exciting to finally see it starting to happen.

See Horror In HBlock - we did a fair job of starting the demolition of the  interior of the building when we trashed it to hold this fundraiser event.  We bought the date forward from 30th October to hold the event in September because demolition was originally scheduled to happen in early October.  Obviously that didn't happen!

The first part of the process is the removal of asbestos, and that began today with the asbestos panels on the outside of the building being removed.  

The large black skip seen in the foreground of this photo is lined with plastic sheeting.  Once  the asbestos is removed it is placed in the skip and then securely wrapped for removal from the site.

Once all of the exterior paneling has been removed they will start on internal asbestos - such as lagging on pipes.

The contract to then remove the building itself is currently open for tender.  We hope that it will be finalised by the end of January, with the work to then begin in February.
