Teufelsberg
I like it when you say you're going somewhere and people suggest places you might like to visit. I think it's a sign of generosity and maybe empathy, telling you things they've enjoyed that they'd like you to share. But when we said we were going to Berlin, no one said "Hey! You should go to Teufelsberg."
This, then, is part of the joy of traveling with the Minx because that's where we went today; somewhere totally unpredictable and off the beaten track. First, though, we had breakfast in a bar called A Never Ending Love Story - check this out - and then went to a Christmas Fair, where I bough a hat like the one that David Bowie wore in Berlin (see extras).
And then we took the bus out to Grunewald station and walked through the woods to the old listening station. You can read bout it here but the site is now run down and covered in graffiti. For a €5 admittance, you can wander about, going through some of the old buildings and admiring the artwork and the slowly decaying structures.
After that, we went back to the station for beers and some food before catching the bus back into Berlin. It was a fantastic day out.
In the evening, we went out to another Christmas Fair, a Scandinavian one, this time, but, to be honest, they are too crowded for me. (I've always been more a pub person than a nightclub lover.) On our way back to the hotel we stopped in a restaurant for a bite, where the Minx experimented with 'spatzel'. I think it may be her one regret of the trip!
