Cockermouth Castle

We walk on the footpath opposite Cockermouth Castle every day on our walks with Chloe...

The river Derwent flows beside the Castle.

It is mainly a 13thC structure, rebuilt in 1360 on the site of a Norman castle dating from 1134.

It was badly damaged after being dismantled at the end of the Civil War, and although partly restored in the 19thC much of it is still in ruins.

It is only open to the public about 8 times a year...Ros is one of the tour guides, and if they are short I do ' tail end Charlie ' !
