What is this magic

We went to Granny and Grandad's house this afternoon and Grandad had a tree in the livingroom which I thought was a bit weird until he pressed a button and it lit up.

I kept staring at it and wanted to touch it but mum Said no (spoil sport), mum Said we will have a tree in our livingroom next week.
