Lambton Castle, in Chester-le-Street, is only 190 years old but looks much older with its blocks of weathered sandstone. Appearing behind the winter trees from the other side of the River Wear, at dusk, it reminded me of times gone by as I went to visit my poor Mum who just slept through our visit. She really looked ancient and sadly, not very peaceful.
