Unexpected Pleasures
Phil and I went to Fairhaven about noon today, in search of blips and whatever else we could find, and wanting to be out of our messy house for a while. While he sheltered from the misty rain in an unusual phone booth/box and made his weekly call to his sister in Wales, I went looking for the pot of gold at the end of an unexpected rainbow arcing over the Village Green.
We met up again and went upstairs in Village Books to the Bookfare Cafe, where Phil had a latte and I had the beautiful hot chocolate shown above. I loved the miniature mountain of whipped cream, topped with a dusting of cocoa, rising above the layer of steamed milk foam.
After a bit more pottering around, we realised that it was past our usual lunchtime, and decided to go to La Fiamma for their lunchtime special of a "personal pizza" and fresh mixed salad. Phil chose one of our all-time favorites, the Fiona -- housemade lamb sausage, roasted vegetable tomato sauce, Kalamata olives, roasted bell peppers, grilled onions, mozarella and feta cheeses, and fresh rosemary.
I opted for their current special, Roasted Fennel Pizza, which included the eponymous fennel, fresh Roma tomatoes, roasted garlic, olive oil, mozzarella, parmesan and asiago cheeses, a sprinkle of chili flakes, and fennel fronds.
Both were yummy, and showing great self-restraint, we saved half of each, so with the addition of our own homemade salad, there's lunch for Monday sorted out!
