Brothers in arms

The efforts of Scottish soldiers during the First World War are remembered by this evocative statue overlooking Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh.
Simply titled 'The Call 1914', it was gifted by Scots-Americans as a tribute to the bravery of the Scottish troops.
Part of the inscription reads "if it be life that waits, I shall live forever unconquered. If death, I shall die at last, strong in my pride and free"
As an expat American living in Scotland, it's heartwarming to see the mutual respect shared by the two countries. I also liked the effect of shadow cast by the winter sun, it gave the illusion that the kilted squaddie was not alone, but with the men depicted on the wall behind.
