Poinsettia, Flower Of The Holy Night.

Pepita, a poor Mexican girl, had no gift to present to the Christ Child. She was filled with sadness but her cousin, Pedro, told her that even the most humble gift, given with love, would be acceptable. So she made a small bouquet of weeds but was saddened as she entered the village chapel. As she lay her straggly bunch of weeds at the foot of the Nativity scene, it burst into blooms of brilliant red. From that day on, the Poinsettia was known as the Flower Of The Holy Night.             (Named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first ambassador to Mexico, who propagated the plant and sent it to different areas)
