Askham Fell Cairn Circle
A jolly little 10 mile bimble from Pooley Bridge to Askham, through the Lowther Estate to Whale then over to Helton finally crossing Askham Fell back to Pooley Bridge.
Askham Fell was littered with sites of antiquity including this Bronze Age Askham Fell Cairn Circle https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1007359 which meets the criteria for today’s Wide Wednesday theme of something old.
The weather was unexpectedly good despite the dull forecast. Low cloud broke up through the morning and we had a sunny afternoon to walk along the River Lowther.
Askham looked an interesting village, quite pretty even in December conditions and I think Lowther Castle will repay a visit another day.
A good soak in the bath ended a very enjoyable day exploring this quiet and less frequented part of the Far Eastern part of the Lakes.
Thanks to BobsBlips for hosting Wide Wednesday
