Christmas Fair, Take Two
After our fun-packed day yesterday, we intended to spend a quiet day at home today. But it was such a beautiful day that we just had to go out for a drive this afternoon. We ended up in Torroella de Montgri, via a couple of medieval villages that we probably would have thought were very attractive if we hadn't visited Monells and Madremanya yesterday. I've put up a couple of Flickr sets from yesterday: Madremanya and Monells.
In Torroella, they were having a Christmas fair -- a Catalan one. We soon decided that there was little difference between a Catalan Christmas fair and a British one, except for different kinds of tat. But on further investigation there turned out to be one very important difference: tractors. All the local tractor merchants had their wares on show -- massive machinery lined up down the middle of the street with crowds of eager potential purchasers gathered round them.
We wondered what the cloud of smoke in the distance was. Vintage tractors, it turned out -- about twenty of them with their proud owners, wreathed in choking exhaust fumes. I'd guess that once you've got these things started, you daren't stop them till you get home. It was a blipper's paradise!
So once again I was spoilt for choice today -- weekends are wonderful things. Spare blips, one of which I'd have used if it wasn't for the tractors: a lovely window in La Pera, and for cat-lovers a little cat with a big shadow -- we kept meeting cats today.
