My topsy-turvy life

Glitch in the matrix?

I left work at 9 and headed straight up to Manchester. Unfortunately they came to take Owen to theatre while I was queueing around the car park. At least I was there when he came back.

The aftermath of dilatation #5 was eerily similar to that of dilatation #4. Uncomfortable, sore and exhausted in recovery, he was having real trouble swallowing his thick, sticky mucus. The trouble is that when that happens he starts to get distressed, struggles to breathe and desaturates.

Cue anaesthetist Fiona, here, stepping in to give him a hand with some oxygen, PEEP (positive end-expiratory pressure) and an adrenaline nebulizer to get him breathing properly. She was on duty on Saturday evening and then again today. It's a bit of a love-hate relationship (from Owen's side) as he hates having the mask forced onto his face but it really helps sort him out.

So mirroring Saturday we get to spend some time on HDU to make sure he's closely monitored until he's completely stable again...before it all starts again next week!
