Is it me?
Spent a wet drab morning in town. Surprisingly not as full of shoppers as I thought it would be, but then it was wet wet.
By the time I arrived home, the sun was out and it could have been a different country or a different day altogether. What a difference 15 miles makes.
L woke up with a dreadful cold and temperature, so she's spent most of the day in bed. I sat in with her for a while this afternoon and at last I have watched 'The King's Speech'. I have to admit I thought it would be a bit of a drippy film, but was very pleasantly surprised to find I liked it very much and couldn't get up and leave it. I can see where the producers trimmed the budget (or should I say managed to make it on such a small budget), but that just adds to the overall depth of the film. A big Hollywood production would have had to include the full coronation, adding $10 million to the costs, but just showing the rehearsal was all that was needed. Hollywood, please take note.
On another note, have you seen the new Super HD tv that NHK of Japan are working on? Called 8K, because it is 8000 pixels across, which is about equal to what the human eye can define, so going any higher would not make any improvement to our visual experience.
It is likely to be another 10 years before these can be produced (they will be about 145 inches in size), and probably be roll up screens which cover a wall. I remember being at the presentation at the old BBC Ealing Studios (yes those of the even older Comedy films fame) when the BBC and Sony revealed the experimental results of the first High Definition TV trials back in about 1989. The consumer tv and the broadcast chain behind it took closer to 20 years to come of age and I expect the 8K TV may take a little longer than they are suggesting.
