Victoria Memorial Hall

I still had a day in Kolkata after the end of our photography workshop before flying home this evening so, with one of the other participants, I went into town to visit a couple of key tourist sites.

The main one was the impressive Victoria Memorial Hall, commisioned in 1901 shortly after the death of Queen Victoria.  The hall was intended as a gallery or museum as well as a memorial to the late Queen.  The foundation stone was laid in 1906 and the building was opened in 1921.

My blip is taken from the gallery surrounding the central hall, looking down on visitors as they circulated around the statue of Queen Victoria.

Looks good large on black.
