next time

...today, we were expecting cloud but awoke to bright sunshine! With more rain forecast over the next couple of days, I was hoping to make the most of the fine weather to capture the sun setting through the arch of Durdle Door. This can only be a achieved during a few days on the cusp of November/December or at the end of January.

The walk from Lulworth Cove to the beacon on West Bottom is a favourite of ours and takes us past Durdle Door twice. Our outbound leg was enjoyed in beautiful sunshine but cloud was already starting to build as we walked back over The Warren and, by the time we returned to Durdle Door, it was clear that the sun would not be visible on this occasion as it set. Nonetheless, there was an ever growing crowd of togs heading down to the beach with the same idea that I had had.

This image looks along Weymouth Bay with the Isle of Portland visible over the top of the Durdle Door's natural arch. Looking along the beach past the cliffs of another Swyre Head, you can see Bat's Head with another natural arch, Bat's Hole. The first of the two sea rocks is called The Bull and the other is The Cow. Between them is another rock that becomes visible as the tide recedes and is called The Blind Cow.

As things stand, good weather is forecast for Wednesday. If it actually happens, then I will be returning for another attempt at the threaded sunset...
