Interesting how lighting technology is changing how we see our world at night.

This was my walk to dinner with friends this evening: along this track, over the unlit railway bridge, and into a dark field where our way was lit by candles in the grass at the edge of the path.

I wrote about Hogacre Common a few weeks ago (and a few years ago)  - a nearby community-run eco-park. The old sports pavilion is now used as a cafe and Helen, who manages it, has just started offering a monthly roast dinner. There were three sittings today, with six tables all fully booked despite it being a good 10 minutes' walk from the nearest place to park a car. We had copious and delicious local organic food, with a blazing log fire and no background music. Conversations where you can hear each other! Such a treat.
