Today's the day ……………………… to congregate

A real treat for us today - to come upon a few million starlings doing their thing above Floors Loch, near Castle Douglas.

Not a great picture of them because the light was poor - and I was far too excited to hold the camera steady.  But you get the general idea!  Every now and then, an extra battalion would scream past us like something straight out of Star Wars to join the ever-increasing multitude.  They wheeled and turned en masse - looking like an enormous whale in the sky.  Then, as quickly as it had all begun, they dropped on to the reedbeds - and all was quiet.
