Mean Streets

Bloor Street is where Toronto's richest people come out to shop. Bay Street is the heart of the city's financial district. And right at the point where they intersect an old man lies on the ground in the biting chill, begging passers-by for their spare cash . . .

Bloor Street, often compared to areas such as Fifth Avenue in New York, Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, and Chicago's Magnificent Mile, is also part of the Route of Heroes, the last journey of fallen soldiers making their final journey to the Coroner's Office.

As I stand here, I wonder if this old guy is a fallen soldier. And I wonder if the rich people who shop in the street or the stockbrokers who work in nearby office towers care . . .
