Carol's ramblings

Full on day

Yesterday evening got a call from AJs friend to say she had had a fall and was going into ospital. I spoke to her before she went and she was ok, but as she had hit her head (large lump) they wanted to monitor overnight.

Today my sister and I went down to Dorset as planned - AJ had two hospital appointments, one at 11:30 and the other at 15:15. Journey down good, stopped off for breakfast, then onto AJs flat to pick up some items. Arrived at the hospital at 11:30 (direct to first appointment), went wel,l then a porter accompanied us back to the ward.

The staff on the ward had said AJ would be going home but aware that she had another appointment. Indicated that we would be going home direct from this appointment as we needed to get back to Berkshire. AJ had lunch whilst we popped off to the cafe.

Weather not good in Dorset today, persistent rain. The blip is out to the sea from her room on the ward but all you can see is raindrops!

Tried to have a discussion with the staff on the ward, but they appeared to have “attitude” and even though my sister is not quiet with her comments, we were portered down to the next appointment being told we had to return to the ward. The problem was that the doctor had completed the discharge paperwork but no mention of medication. Whilst there hadn’t been any change in medication, and AJ had taken her own blister-pack medication in with her, they were not allowed to give this blister pack back to AJ (locked away) without the doctors agreement (even though there had been no change!).

Second appointment completed, waited for a porter to return to the ward - my sister refused to go up to the ward only to come back down again! Back on the ward, the porter left AJs admission notes with her in her room and left. Whilst waiting, with AJs permission, perused the notes (nothing exciting to report). Nurse appeared, loudly stated “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!”, reading the notes was my reply. “You are not allowed to do that” I responded that AJ had agreed I could - she snatched them from my hand and stormed out. A few minutes later she returned, unlocked the cupboard and produced the blister-pack and gave them to my aunt saying that her discharge letter would be posted to her.

She escorted us off the ward - we were not happy.

After collecting items from AJs flat and then back down the motorway, eventually home at 9pm (from 7:30am).

What a day!
