Silly Saturday ....
.... feeding frenzy!
I had to return a library book today so while we were out we run some other errands.
Close by the library is our favorite waterfowl observation site. After dropping off the book at the library we headed over there. We had taken some corn with us as we know they love it and it's so much better for the ducks than the bread and other things most people feed to them! I figured I could get a Silly Saturday shot the all the ducks going after the corn .... and I was right!
From the waterfowl site we went to Wegmans and then into Nazareth as R wanted to stop at Tractor Supply Co. store. As we were driving to Nazareth I noticed huge flocks of geese in the sky and wondered if they might be Snow Geese ..... I was right! These are the first Snow Geese we have seen for the season! I love seeing them but on the flip side it means that winter is here!
While in Nazareth we went to the quarry that the Snow Geese love and could see thousands of them down in the water of the old quarry. Just beautiful! Unfortunately there are so many trees and underbrush in front of the quarry that you just can't get a good picture! Not to mention the fence that guards against people going down into the quarry.
Since now we know that the Snow Geese are going through the area we made a few detours on the way home to some fields that we have seen them at before. And we were rewarded for this detour! We found a field nearby that had thousands of geese in it! We stopped and watched for a while until something spooked them and they all took off en masse! I have added an extra of the Snow Geese taking off and this link is a video that Richard shot with his smartphone. Be sure to hit the small play button in the lower left.
What a great day!
