Fuel for thought
yellow jackets out
roundabout demonstrations
multi-purpose strife
The first reason for the recurring demonstrations is the fact that taxes on fuel have taken a dramatic surge, supposedly to finance the transition from fossil fuels to "cleaner" energy sources. However, in a context where the richer among us have been given back money by the government, this is seen as provocation, as of course a rise in fuel prices is much tougher on low(er) income people than it is on those who earn a lot. Of course, the demonstrations aim to denounce a global despondency regarding taxes, for the same reasons.
All over the country, roundabouts and roads are occupied by people wearing yellow security jackets, 24 hours a day. Yesterday, protests in Paris were disrupted by ultraright hooligans. :-/
