Sundowner
Of course in winter the part of the day after sundown is much longer though, frankly, this whole day has been somewhat on the long side.
Up early to welcome the fence installers who - despite Mr B’s world-weary scepticism - arrived at 8.05 am. While they got on with measuring (telling me later that mine and TallGirl’s marking out was perfect - everything at exactly 90 degrees - thanks Pythagorus), I headed off for a quick market trip. Again, hitting the stalls early meant avoiding all the lovely but time-consuming chats with my sluggabed friends (save for an excessively long and trying conversation with a man with no voice box who sold me some lambswool insoles for my gardening boots).
Mr B and CarbBoy headed off for a slightly-far-away basketball match (slowed by gilets jaunes). CarbBoy is under the weather, with a nearly cold and a nearly ingrowing toenail that required some minor kitchen surgery last night. The match was a tough one, with a big and very physical side, and a home team referee who didn’t seem to be aware of the rule against charging. CarbBoy’s team lost (but came out alive, though one of his team mates had to play without his glasses after being punched in the face three times...) but let’s see how it goes on the return fixture with a ref who has a passing acquaintance with the rules.
Meanwhile, I gardened, admired the super straight fence posts and enjoyed the sunshine (cardie-off weather!)
Later, after Chinese duck (with spices actually from China and a recipe from one of Mr B’s Chinese colleagues), we were discussing the gender of God, as you do, when CarbBoy announced he had a rash on his legs. Long story short, I think it’s just an eczema flair up (about 9 years after his last one) but with an allergic child it’s always a worrying moment. After throwing all the drugs at him, he seems more comfortable.
Later still, Mr B and CarbBoy watched a movie they thought I wouldn’t like (!) so I sewed curtains. Not sure I win that one.
