5-4-3-2-1 It Was The Manfreds!
We saw a fine array of vintage talent at The Princess Theatre in Torquay tonight. The Manfreds with original singer Paul Jones and Mike d'Abo who replaced him in 1966. They also had original members Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness. Originally called Manfred Mann, of course they've been going out as The Manfreds since 1999 as I imagine Manfred Mann owns the copyright on the original name. Sounds fair. Of course they've been known as The Manfreds pretty much from day one.
They also had Georgie Fame with them he was very enjoyable to see every so often when they brought him on (personally I've always enjoyed the bluesy Manfreds more than the jazzy Fame). It was good to see the contrast between the Mike D'Abo numbers and the Paul Jones ones.
We were picked up by our friends Chris and Marie and had an early meal in Torquay before crossing the road to the Theatre. Altogether a very enjoyable evening! I've added an extra with Georgie Fame.
