Low Bridge of Tarff
Today's the day ………………………… for a safe haven
The Tarff Water is a tributary of the River Dee and this picture was taken half a mile upstream from where the two mingle before passing through Kirkcudbright and on to the Solway Firth.
It's here at the confluence that there are some of the largest reed beds in the south of Scotland, providing a safe haven for numerous birds including the secretive water rail, sedge warbler and reed bunting. There are lots of herons about - and apparently, if you are lucky you might see the flash of blue as a kingfisher dashes past.
In the meantime, there are still lots of seed head plumes (see extra) on the waving reeds which always look, and sound wonderful ………………….
