Enviable physique

Today, bright and early, was the annual Ka Iwi Run/Walk from the end of Sandy Beach along the coast highway to Maunalua Bay, four miles, closed course.   Took awhile for the sun to break through the cloud cover.  This conch shell blower was one of three moving along the course.   He was the only one of them with the Hawaiian flag tied on his leg.  Looking at him, you see where your eye automatically goes.  He ran/walked barefoot, as did one of his cohorts.   Behind him, the small orange tent near the top of the incline was the only rest stop, just below the halfway mark.   This year for the first time, dogs on leash were allowed.    Strollers were asked to start last, but not all did.   Runners (fast, medium and slow) started first, then walkers (same grades), then strollers.   The first finisher did a 5:44/mile pace, finishing in 22:57.2 (min/sec).
Saw a dad and his daughter on unicycles; talked to the Mom afterwards who told me they practice on Diamond Head Road (another long incline).  When I got passed by 2 walkers with 2  big  great danes, it was a pleasure to see them.  When I began to be passed by strollers, well  . . . .  there must have been lots in that category!!    I was pleased to not be last.   Highest bib number we saw was 2705; looking at the times, 2,167 people did the event.   A beautiful thing to do early on a Sunday morning.
