The Monarch of Auchmountain Glen

I might have forgotten to take a shot of what was happening in Greenock on Tuesday but the local paper, The Greenock Telegraph didn't.

So, this is the stag that the pupils of P5 at All Saints PS are adopting and working so hard to save... The Monarch of Auchmountain Glen. Made from girders and a tribute to the shipyard workers of the area.

Interestingly, classes taking part in the Education Initiative are now creating their own press releases and writing articles about what they're doing, and sending them out and putting them online. P5 All Saints were also sharing their story with parents today as part of their Literacy Across Learning day.

P7b Kilbowie in Clydebank also wrote and sent out its own press release and it was that which led to Tuesday's visit from their MSP to find out what they're doing.

So, definitely Curriculum for Excellence in action as pupils move naturally between subject areas when it seems appropriate to them, whether Art & Design, Literacy, English, Social Studies, Citizenship...

And it's not only the primary schools. The AH Art & Design class at Strathaven Academy has now written and recorded the script for the audio tour to the exhibition, while reversing that Art-English line, the AH English class at Hillhead HS has been enjoying making the largest paper boat in the Boat Shed, and in Merkland School, East Dunbartonshire S2 pupils are investigating George Wyllie and creating their own work as a response in both their English and Art class.

Seems fitting when the focus of what they're all doing is someone who created artwork, wrote poetry, played and performed music, wrote and performed dramas and shows, and behind it was the social message.

No reason at all then why pupils should see what they're doing as limited to a particular subject, and so apparently they don't. They just all go in their own directions with it.
